Why the Brief Is Usually Wrong
The most important problem is rarely the one in the document.
A brief is a fossil of a meeting. It contains the politics that were speakable, the metric that was convenient, and the solution someone already wanted. Treat it as evidence, not as law.
SCAN exists because the document lies by omission. Who benefits if this problem is framed this way? Which workaround is already in use? What would ‘done’ look like for the person who actually touches the system?
FLIP is not creativity theatre. It is the disciplined act of writing the question the brief could not afford to ask. If you cannot do that, you are a vendor. If you can, you are useful when the old method has already failed.

Who benefits if this problem is framed this way. Which workaround is already in use. What would done look like for the person who actually touches the system. If you cannot answer those, you are implementing a slide.
FLIP is not creativity theatre. It is the disciplined act of writing the question the brief could not afford to ask. Energy lead-gen briefs ask for more forms. The hidden rule is installer capacity, finance eligibility, and grid constraint. KYB briefs ask for a score. The hidden rule is a verb: hold, expire, callback.
HACKERS missions start there. We do not reward people for restating the request in more expensive language. We reward people who can show the request was the wrong object. If you cannot do that, you are a vendor. If you can, you are useful when the old method has already failed.
BREAK the brief itself. What incentive did we fail to model. Which user are we pretending is average. If this idea were a sentence spoken by an adversary, what would it be trying to do. Then BUILD the smallest proof that the new question is the real one.
